What people are saying about Golden Karen Asian Market Real feedback from customers who have visited us.
This is a very unique family run store, especially for the area. A must try for every cooking enthusiast or curious individual. Many rare ingredients are available, however they are mainly Southeast Asian rather than East Asian as found at most Asian groceries. In addition they also seem to carry a decent amount of Philipino foods and a small assortment of North African ingredients. The owners are very well mannered and very easy to deal with. They go out of their way to find what you are looking for if they are able to and will even in some cases special order things you need if they don't have them in stock (including some traditional East Asian ingredients. Overall a very friendly, trustworthy environment well worth the time to visit. They also seasonally carry fresh Betel(not prepared), something I have never seen in Iowa before.
It's one of my favorite Asian markets. There's something for everyone here! Great people with the best selection of fresh, frozen, and dry commodities from Asia!
They have lots of interesting items from Asia: maybe 20 varieties of dry noodles, a dozen hot sauces, three different canned straw mushrooms, Japanese bubble soda, Canned Thai ice coffee, coconut soda, shrimp chips, jarred chili paste, Thai sauces, African banana catsup sauce, and the instant noodle (ramen) collection is entertaining! The spoken English there is a bit lacking, the owners a little shy, so just explore, buy something and try it! A nice way to spend an hour wandering Myanmar/Burma/SE Asia!
Cute little market, outstanding variety, friendly staff, can't recommend enough. The Inotea Bubble Teas are great, in particular, love the brown sugar one!
Amazing selection of imported foods from Asia. Lots of fresh (uncommon) vegetables and fruits. Able to find pork belly, frogs legs and goat among others.I don't need to go any far.
What an awesome store! Owners very helpful. Variety was impressive. Google maps slightly off. Go down the street a few stores. Check the street number, it is on the door you enter (411 Church Street).
